Rascalls

These two lads were up to all sorts of antics and enjoying themselves enormously here at the seaside. They had climbed up about 20 feet onto 'Elephant Rock', a feat that I wasn't going to attempt. They were good humored, not minding their photo being taken.

I used the shot as an exercise in adding textures. The logo on the sweatshirt I must admit is somewhat of an anachronism given its contemporary design being at odds with the 'aged' effect the texture layer was supposed to provide. Nevertheless, I liked the capture.

The Lazy Sea - Currumbin

It was one of those lazy days when the sun worked its somnambulistic magic - even the sea seemed to be sleepy, just slopping gently against the rocks here at Currumbin.

Shimmering Sea - Currumbin Creek Estuary - 2

I've processed another version of the previous photo. It's my first attempt at adding texture to an image. I don't think I was too heavy handed. I know I've created a fake 'film' effect but until I can procure a scanner that is able to scan my Holga negatives, this will have to do to satisfy my analog cravings. If you want to compare the two images, just open the previous version in a new browser tab and switch between the tabs.

Yesterday I made the short trip, about 5 minutes drive, to Currumbin Creek Estuary and found it to be a dazzling sight with the morning sun shimmering brilliantly on the sea. It's winter here now and I went without a hat but was surprised to find that I received a dose of sunburn on my face. I must admit that the climate is very mild in this location, the temperature being about 21 degrees C, or 70 degrees F. There were people here swimming, surfing, fishing and sunbathing.

Abundant sunshine sparkling on the water at the estuary of Currumbin Creek and on the sea beyond lifts my spirits every time. On the skyline can be seen Burleigh Head on the left and the high rise buildings of Surfers Paradise to the right.

A few paces to the left of the previous photo and I discovered these boys had climbed the rock. At my age, I think I will just potter around on the flat section below :-/

The late afternoon sun glares through the salty atmosphere silhouetting a fisherman, bicycle and seagull on the rocks by the sea. The large crane which has been a dominating structure on the opposite shore for quite a while has recently been removed as its work is now complete.

Angling in the Silver Sea

Having been deprived of my internet connection for some days, I've decided to post an extra image today. It's just a simple scene of a hopeful fisherman angling in what one could imagine to be a sea of silver, made so by the beautiful morning light.

A Dash of Blue

After a frustrating week of my internet connection being down I felt like posting a sunny photo with a dash of intense blue. So here is a view looking across Palm Beach from Currumbin Creek Estuary. The air is free of the hazy salt air that so often is present here and the coastline of Queensland can be seen for quite a distance.

Serenity at Currumbin Rock

A gentle dusk scene at Elephant Rock. This is a change of mood from the somber and extreme visions which have preceded this post of late. I wanted to experiment and create some different things but a lighter feeling now might be a move in a preferable direction. Here in this photo there are no ghosts, no dashing waves, gales or fearful phenomena. The Pacific Ocean lives up to its name in this calm state of peace and serenity.
